Raise Your Hand if You Have Questions

For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. 1 Corinthians 13:12
At our Bible study one evening the discussion was “interesting.” We dug into Genesis 18 & 19. Honestly, I think we all left with more questions than answers. There are some hard things in these chapters – Why is “LORD” all capitals and then later, just capital “L?”  Who were the three men who Abraham saw before him? What is going on with Lot and his daughters and later, the daughters and Lot? There were so many questions and so many varied answers.
I love to leave a study feeling like I learned something. Leaving with questions is uncomfortable. Having questions is not bad; it’s what you do with your questions that count. We have a few choices. We can continue to dig into commentaries, search out the Hebrew or Greek meanings, and read about the culture. Perhaps new light will be shed on our reading. Still questions may remain and you are left to the last two choices. First, you can move on in belief. Acknowledge that God may reveal more truth to you in the future. Something you don’t see or understand now you may see with new eyes later if you continue to study and grow.  Secondly, you can choose to let unbelief creep into your heart and mind and trust your own intellect over what God says is true.
As a child, I grew up hearing about Noah’s Ark in Sunday school. Later when I came to Christ, knowing I needed a relationship with Him, I had to make a choice. “I believe what you say about my sin and my need for a Savior… but I’m not so sure about the Ark though.” I had to grow and not let the parts of the Bible where I didn’t have all the answers and understanding deter me from growing in my relationship with Christ or the study of His Word.
We all wrestle with questions. Things we find a bit challenging to understand or to believe. We must keep pressing on! I trust that the many things I don’t understand will be seen when I see Jesus face to face.  I even wonder if my questions will be important. I think in light of Jesus my questions won’t need answering.
Blessings,
Kathy
