Prepare Yourself and Others

“Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” The prophet Isaiah was speaking about John when he said,  “He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming! Clear the road for him!” -Matthew 3:2-3

Preparation is the key to successfully completing a task or a goal that is set forth before you. For example, you would not consider going before your boss to give a presentation without fully preparing yourself with the “right” information. This is exactly what needs to be done now as we walk out our Christian faith.

Jesus’ first coming was to demonstrate the love God has for all humanity (John 3:16). Jesus gave up His divine privileges, took the humble position of a slave and died a criminal’s death on the cross (Philippians 2:7-8 NLT). But as Christians we know Jesus is coming back a second time. And today is the day we start living up to His will and His calling, not for us, but for all humanity. It is time to prepare the way for the Lord’s second coming.

John the Baptist was called to be a “voice shouting in the wilderness.” He was called to prepare the way and to clear the road for the coming Messiah. Once the people repented of their sins and turned to God, the arrival of Jesus’ ministry began and the people prepared themselves to see Him. They prepared their hearts. They removed the sin from their lives. We are called to repent, turn to God and prepare. Prepare yourself to experience God. How? By praying, by reading God’s Word, by genuinely worshipping the Lord in fear and awe, by repenting of your sins and giving yourself completely to God (Romans 6:12-15).  But this is not the end of it; once you prepare yourself, it is time to make a way for others.

“After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go” (Luke 10-1 ESV). Here Jesus designated a group of 72 to prepare a number of towns for His later visit. If you are follower of Christ, you have the power of God within you. You are prepared to go out into the towns and share the Good News. We are called to now prepare the way for the second coming by explaining to others their need for forgiveness, demonstrating Christ’s teachings by our actions, and telling them how Christ can give meaning to their empty lives.  We can “clear the road for Him” by correcting misconceptions that might be hindering people from fully knowing Christ.

Jesus is coming back very soon and it is time we start preparing the way for His arrival. May you today repent, turn to God, and prepare your heart for His will. May the Father empower you and equip you to accomplish His work for His Eternal Glory. God Bless you!
