Perspective: Turned Rightside Up

Posted on September 16, 2020 by Catey Stover in Victory Call

If you would have told me this time last year that in just a matter of months, we would be walking around with masks, kids wouldn’t be in school, hugging our friends would be frowned upon, and traveling to see our families would be near impossible, I would have recommended a really good doctor to you 😉. You would have sounded crazy.

Real talk, life can be hard … especially when we’re met with constant changes. It doesn’t have to be coronavirus. It can be a change of job, moving away from home, the loss of a loved one, a break up, even a shift in your priorities. Change is part of life, and it can be one of the toughest, most fatiguing, most painful parts of life.

To be candid, the amount of change I’ve experienced in the last year has been overwhelming. My childhood house was sold, we lost a beloved member of our family, I left a blessing of a home and community I’ve been a part of for nearly 10 years, and I moved to a place where I know almost nobody. That’s what happened. But there’s also joy that comes from change.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, ‘to every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.’ When something in our life changes, we give up some things, but gain others. What’s the reality? God always has a purpose.

I am in a season where I’m really trying to guard my heart by shifting my perspective. Instead of focusing on what I lost, I am refocusing on what I’ve gained. Because I’ve moved, I have a relationship with certain members of my family that I never would have been able to enjoy before. I am growing in my abilities and learning new skills. I have a new appreciation for the little things, and think twice before taking them for granted… and lately, the Lord has revealed a lot of growth areas in my life that I am actively working on. I have never been as mentally, physically, spiritually, and professionally challenged as I am right now. It is not always easy, but it is good.

Do you know who never changes? The Lord. He is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore. When you need the world to pause, when you need to grieve the changes in your life, sit at His feet and talk with Him. Grieving change is normal, even healthy, but He is the constant we long for. 🙏

Think About This: “I want to be careful about how much time I’m spending thinking about ‘what was’ or ‘what might be,’ for in doing so I will spend my life missing ‘what is.” ― Craig D. Lounsbrough
