My Favorite Shirt

Posted on September 14, 2020 by Catey Stover in Victory Call

I used to have this shirt – and it was my very favorite – but, unfortunately, I lost it in the shuffle of my most recent move. This shirt that I wish I still had says “Even if not, God is still good.” WOW! You could preach a whole sermon on that one quote alone 👕!

This quote was taken loosely from Daniel 3:16-18, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied to him, King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” I aspire to have as much courage in the faith as these brave men did, or as any heroes of the faith did – including David, Esther, and Daniel!

I would have never admitted this years ago,, but there was always a little compartment in my heart that wanted to add on to this quote. “Even if not, God is still good… but if the answer is no, I’ll take it into my own hands.” Part of me wanted to embrace this quote, and the other part of me wanted to take the lead.

Living a surrendered life isn’t natural, because our desire is to live by our own authority. This mindset is a result of sin and dates all the way back to the days of Eden, when Adam and Eve wanted to make the rules and live by their own jurisdiction. What does living the surrendered life truly mean? I’m still learning, but I know that it requires prayer, trust, faith, meditation on Scripture, and patience. 🙏
