Learning, Leaning, Leading

Posted on December 14, 2018 by America's Keswick in Victory Call

A few months ago I had the privilege of attending the women’s fall weekend at Keswick. While I was there, I heard the word leaning used on more than one occasion, from more than one person and in more than one context.

I love when God repeats Himself to gain our attention. So, I began to think and dwell on the word, leaning.

I have learned to lean on God and lean into God when I am seeking and waiting for His leading. We can also find the word lean in scripture.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

I have learned through the years how to hear what God is saying to me. One sure way is through His word, the Bible. Another is to listen for His voice through a sermon, or maybe a podcast, or sometimes through the words of a worship song. God may also speak to me through the words of a trusted friend.

At the same time, I am trying to learn how to be still, to sit quietly in prayer and to mediate on His scriptures. In that stillness and quietness I can hear His voice. His voice, not my voice. My voice often interrupts His voice.

When I am leaning on God and leaning into God, I have a better focus of God’s leading. I don’t rely on my conclusions or directions, but follow Him and then my paths are straight. I don’t bring God behind me and ask Him to follow me in my plans for each day, but I have learned, through leaning, how to follow His leading and walk along side of Him and not in front of Him.

So today, in closing, ask yourself…..have I been leaning on God?

In this season of the year we find ourselves busy with family and work, dealing with colds and the flu and then finding time for everything. Need support? How can I manage it all? Then learn to lean on God and follow His leading.

In this season of the year, there are many people who are not happy. They may be dealing with depression, financial difficulties, or the loss of loved ones. Don’t understand? How can I help? What can I do? Then learn to lean on God and follow His leading.
