It all Comes Out in the Wash

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, For in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” Galatians 6:9

There have been many times I’ve complained about injustice, “How can they get away with that?” Then I came across a saying that brought everything into perspective, “It all comes out in the wash.”

This is one of those principles I use when growing weary in doing good, the process of waiting for an outcome in something we invest “good” into may be delayed and even never seen. I’ve come to realize that doing good is not a part of some exchange system that I conceived in my mind but a standard in which we respond to what has already been given to us. The truth of the matter is when we look to be repaid for doing good, we can grow weary. Truth be told it’s actually a response towards others because of what has already been done for us.

When I consider the blessings that have been given to me through others I am now a responder to pay forward what has already been bestowed to me. To “Grow Weary” can be a result of wrong motivation, which in turn can result in losing heart or becoming discouraged. Our good deeds are a type of fuel that sustains the work God wants to do through us. This is where Proverbs 3:5,6 comes in, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.” When we involve ourselves in the ministry God has given us the reward is to be reaped in due time, the residue that is left in return for our work “All comes out in the wash.”

When we are growing weary in doing good it is usually a sign of us working in the flesh. If you’re finding yourself ready to give up because you don’t feel appreciated maybe it’s time to recount your blessings, maybe a little soul searching into the reality of where we would be had not those who went before us persevered and put forth good works in the power of the Holy Spirit. It’s only through the gratefulness and with praise towards God can we do anything good. The fuel that generates the power to do good comes from a pure heart that is controlled by God. Our total surrender and acknowledgment of a dependency on God will allow Him to work through us. “The Wash” is the cleansing power of Jesus as we live a life of confession and repentance, keeping short accounts of our sin and being washed in the Blood.

So, if you’re tired of doing good, maybe it’s time to do some laundry and wash those stains away, Amen!
