I’m a NUT!!!

Do you ever feel like a nut 🥜? Like it’s hard for you to feel like you have any control of your life because you have so many responsibilities, so many commitments, and so little time?

Or maybe the exact opposite is true. Maybe you feel like everyone else in the world is 🥴nutty🥴, and you’re the only sane one!!

I can 100% relate to both of these scenarios, and they both deal with the same heart issue – pride. Pride is a root of evil, because it births the desire to sin and rebel against God.

In the 1st scenario, pride is the root because we put ourselves in the place of God. We fill ourselves up with so many ‘responsibilities’ that we don’t have time to just be with God, and we feel as though we are solely responsible to bear burdens we were never meant to carry on our own. Pride says, ‘If you want something done right you have to do it yourself.’ Humility says, ‘God, please take this from me because I can’t carry this alone.’

📝 PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT referring to anxiety or spotlighting anxiety as prideful or sinful in ANY WAY. 📝

The 2nd scenario is probably a more obvious form of pride. The root of this mindset is the message of, ‘I know better,’ or worse, ‘I AM better.’ It’s one thing to disagree with someone whose ideals contradict God’s judgment, but it’s a whole other thing to look down on others because their beliefs are not the same as yours… or because they’re lost. This mindset leads down a dangerous road to the arrogant Pharisee’s thoughts in Luke 18, ‘…I thank you, God, that I am not like other people—cheaters, sinners, adulterers. I’m certainly not like that tax collector! I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my income.’

In this world, we will experience discouragement and displeasure, just as Jesus did. See Matthew 11 or 16, when Jesus was frustrated because His disciples had a lack of faith in their hearts. But Jesus never belittled anyone, and He knew His source of strength and peace came from the Father. Jesus prayed that the Father would receive the glory. He was 100% humble 100% of the time, and He is in control.

It’s okay to feel like a nut sometimes, but don’t live there. And if you must be a 🥜, it should be because you’re NUTS for Jesus! (…After all, nuts are the BEST part of Butter Pecan Ice Cream!)
