How Vast

How precious to me are your thoughts, God!

How vast is the sum of them!

Were I to count them,

they would outnumber the grains of sand—

when I awake, I am still with you.

Psalm 139:17-18

It’s finally summer and the beaches are open! I do enjoy plopping down in a beach chair near the water and all that goes with it, the warm sun, the salty water, and the grainy sand too. I must admit the remnants of the sand that travel home with me not so much in the past. But one day many years ago after I had read this verse I no longer felt the same. I remember one of day at the beach as a young mom, I took some sand in my hand, and had my son do the same. Then I said to him; “Do you see all the sand on this beach and in our hands, well God’s thoughts toward us are more than all of those grains of sand and we can’t even being to count them! Don’t forget that.”

Sometimes I forget that, and how precious they are, yet each time I return to the beach, I’m reminded. Think of it, just the sand caught under one finger nail is immeasurable yet the Lord says His thoughts toward us are more than the grains of sand, and the psalmist how precious they are to him. May they be as precious to you and me.

The Lord bless you…
