God is Bigger than you Think

Recently on my way home, I was listening to the Key Life radio program when Steve Brown made this compelling statement:

God is bigger than you think.  God is bigger that you CAN think.  – Pastor Steve Brown

God is knowable. Comprehensible? No, but knowable.

Imagine if you and I could comprehend God.  If we could wrap our mind around all that He is; if we could comprehend Him, He would be no greater than us.  Scary thought.

So often in the counseling office, people are wrestling with life’s circumstances; ultimately they are wrestling with God.  As I sit and listen to what they share about God, it is evident they don’t really know God or at least not the God of the Bible.  We can all fall into making God after our image; or seeing God through the lens of life experience.

When our problems loom large in our hearts and minds, God gets pushed to the periphery.  When God is front and center in our hearts and minds, our problems get pushed to the periphery.  So what Pastor Brown said is so important to remind ourselves over and over again.

God is bigger than you think, and God is bigger than you CAN think.

Let’s face it – there is a lot in life that we simply just don’t understand.  In our human logic, we cannot grasp why God would allow certain difficult, painful, tragic and even evil circumstances cross our paths. But we have a finite capacity to understand an infinite God. Who knew this better than Moses?

Moses said, “Please show me your glory.”  And he said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name ‘The Lord.’ … “But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.” And the Lord said, “Behold, there is a place by me where you shall stand on the rock, and while my glory passes by I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back, but my face shall not be seen.” Exodus 33:23-33

Life will be more peaceful when we get to the place that we trust God is bigger than we think. We cannot fathom the magnitude of His grace, His love, His faithfulness, His generosity, His interest, His care, His provision, His wisdom and His kindness.  God is infinite in all His attributes. So He is bigger than we CAN think.

That used to strike fear in my heart but as I’ve grown in my relationship with Jesus so has my appreciation for Him and for His infinite attributes. Now my heart is led to worship and praise that he is bigger than I think and even bigger than I can think.

We have a GREAT, AMAZING and AWESOME God.  Lift your eyes and praise Him.

Blessings,

Diane
