COPYCAT!

How many times are we with people that we really admire and think, “I’d really love to be like that person someday?” I know I do that… like, a lot. It’s funny to think about how we can kind of act like children sometimes. Obviously as adults we don’t play the “copycat game” with our friends, but we might compare ourselves to them or even try to be like them.

I feel like when we do that, God is saying “Don’t strive to be like that person! I made you special and I am trying to transform you into the image of my Son! Be imitators of Him!” When we compare ourselves to others, we are comparing ourselves to an imperfect standard, because we have a sin nature about us.
Ephesians 5:1-2 says: Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
The copycat game among children can be a bit aggravating, and when we try to be like others or when we compare ourselves to others, we’re comparing ourselves to someone who is imperfect. God made us so unique and so special, and He wants to use us in such a unique way to carry out HIS purposes. We just need to try to keep living like Jesus. When we strive to be like Him and play the copycat game with Him… well, that can only end with good results, amen?
