Colors of God (Part 2)

In my last Victory Call, we briefly spoke about the story of Noah and how all of the colors of the rainbow that the Lord revealed to Noah on that day tell the story of God and bring Him glory. The verse of reference was Genesis 9:9-17:

 

“I am going to make a solemn promise to you and to everyone who will live after you. This includes the birds and the animals that came out of the boat. I promise every living creature that the earth and those living on it will never again be destroyed by a flood.

The rainbow that I have put in the sky will be my sign to you and to every living creature on earth. It will remind you that I will keep this promise forever. When I send clouds over the earth, and a rainbow appears in the sky, I will remember my promise to you and to all other living creatures. Never again will I let floodwaters destroy all life. When I see the rainbow in the sky, I will always remember the promise that I have made to every living creature. The rainbow will be the sign of that solemn promise.” 

The colors we spoke about were the colors red, orange, and yellow. Red represents our sin, and the blood Christ shed for us. Orange represents fire and how it declares His power and majesty, but also how it represents His judgments and warnings. Yellow is a happy color and reminds us of the sun, and reminds us that the name of the Lord is to be praised!

Today I want to look at the colors green, blue, and purple. These colors are “colder” than the warm red, orange, and yellow in the last Victory call, but they still bring the same amount of praise to the Lord!

 

Green – Green reminds me personally of the Lord’s provision and eye for beauty. I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, ‘God’s green Earth!’ When God created Adam and Eve, he created greenery for them to enjoy. They were able to sustain their bodies thanks to the fruit in the green trees, and to this day we still are sustained by the green plants and trees. In Psalm 23:2, David says that the Lord makes [Him] lie down in green pastures. The grass, the trees, and the plants in the field all bring glory to God our Father.

 

Blue – Blue is definitely another color of royalty in the Bible, but for me personally it reminds me of the waters, which represents God’s forgiveness and God’s nearness to us. Micah 7:19 says, “You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea” (forgiveness). Isaiah 43:2 says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you…” (nearness). Habakkuk 2:14 says that the oceans are meant to bring us knowledge of the glory of God.

 

Purple – The color purple is seen as a color of royalty in the Bible (Judges 8:26, Esther 8:15.) This color explanation is short and sweet, but so powerful. It was a color worn by Kings, and it reminds us that Jesus Christ is the KING of KINGS.
