Who will hold my hand when I am scared?

There are a series of Psalms written by David from when he was on the run from Saul. They speak of the loneliness and heartache he was experiencing, yet their focus is not on how that brings him down, but on how The Lord is the gracious sustainer of his soul. David cries, “Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me, for my soul takes refuge in You; and in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge Until destruction passes by. I will cry to God Most High, To God who accomplishes all things for me. He will send from heaven and save me; He reproaches him who tramples upon me.” (Psalms 57:1-3)

How often we think God’s silence means He is absent, when in reality He has been sustaining us all along; providing us rest and security ‘under His mighty wing of ‘lovingkindness and His truth’ (.v 7). Because David did not blame God for his circumstances and push Him away, he was able to find hope. David proclaims, “My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; for Your lovingkindness is great to the heavens And Your truth to the clouds!”

David’s greatest need is met so much so that he cries out, “I will sing, yes, I will sing praises! Be exalted above the heavens, O God; Let Your glory be above all the earth” (vs. 10-11). God’s grace is greater than all else, it will sustain and keep you… if only you would relent and find rest in it. There is someone who will hold not only your hand, but wrap you up securely in His arms… you just need to reach out and grasp hold of All God is offering you in salvation through Jesus Christ.

Jesus will hold your hand when you are afraid, please choose Him today.

“Sin and despair, like the sea waves cold, Threaten the soul with infinite loss; Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold, Points to the refuge, the mighty cross.”

Grace, grace, God’s grace,

Grace that will pardon and cleanse within; Grace, grace, God’s grace, Grace that is greater than all our sin!
