Who Does Justice Spare?

Posted on April 25, 2023 by Elizabeth Welte in Freedom Fighters

Justice spares no one. The law that is the standard of Justice exposes fault and establishes guilt; it condemns, it punishes, it kills, and it is used as a weapon. It does not possess the ability to choose how it is used, nor can it respond with compassion, mercy, grace, or love. The law is an idea of Perfect Justice that leads to order when applied to those who are ruled by it. The law cannot save you from its condemnation.

The law is unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature; we are self-interested looking to use the law to benefit ourselves and live autonomously whenever possible. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body, God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving His Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit” (Rom 8:3-4).

Because justice spares no one, we need a mediator. We need someone who  knows the law, as well as the mind of God, who is the ‘lawgiver.’ Someone who understands its power and consequences when applied to us. And, someone who has experienced it in every way, making them passionate in our defense.

Jesus is that Mediator. He understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same testings we do, and Jesus has dealt with all of those things that corrupt our integrity, morality, and authenticity… and yet He did not sin. Jesus never left God out of His response to these things that so quickly destroy us. He trusted God and His Word and rested by faith in God the Father’s promises. So let us also come boldly, in the same manner as Jesus, to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most” (Heb 4:15-16).

Paul encourages us on with this response, “What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?  Since God did not spare even His own Son but gave Jesus up for us all, won’t He also give us everything else? Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself, through Jesus’ salvation work, has given us right standing with himself. Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us… as our Mediator.” (Rom 8:31-34)

If you’re going to reject God’s way and Mediator, choosing to rely on your own frail and corrupted ability to deal with the law; please be honest enough to admit that if God did not spare His own Son when it comes to the ‘Just’ penalties of the law, He will not spare you.

In His Holiness, God cannot be anything other than ‘Perfectly Just.’ But in His ‘Perfect Love,’ He gave His only begotten Son in your place, so all who believe in Him can escape His perfect wrath towards all sin. It was never intended for those who are created in His image; those who experience it have done so by their own choice. God is for you. Perfect love is on your side and has completed everything necessary to save you from Justice under the law. He even provides a mediator who passionately understands all you are dealing with. Jesus, in His role as the Mediator, is not only arguing for you, He has paid the penalty of your guilt, so you do not have to. There is hope, and His name is Jesus. Just grab His outstretched hand and receive His gift of salvation. You won’t regret it… especially when you realize you need a Mediator.

Choose wisely…

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:9-10)
