What More Can Be Said About Christmas?

Posted on December 16, 2021 by Catey Stover in Freedom Fighters

Those of us who have been around Christianity for many years have heard the Christmas story scores of times. We have heard from great preachers and from local pastors, from children’s plays to wonderful Christmas concerts, even the often-distorted versions from the news media and television that tell a part of the story though it may be incomplete or distorted.

So why another attempt?

It is often said that you can read and re-read the scriptures and discover new insights. May this be one…or a good reminder of what we already know.

Various numbers have been offered as to the number of prophecies fulfilled by Christ’s birth. Three hundred might be a conservative number. I, personally, have never counted them, nor am I sure I could find all of them. But let’s make the assumption that is close to correct.

This alone should prove the Bible as an authentic, observable, demonstrable proof of the total accuracy of scripture.

Consider that there were many “prophets” in Old Testament days; but not all of their prophecies were accurate. So how could you tell which ones were the “real thing”? If the prophecy was not totally fulfilled and totally accurate, they were to be rejected and the “false prophet” was to be stoned. (See Deut.18: 19-22, especially v. 22 and Deut.13: 1-11, especially v. 5.) Since the prophets who prophesied these things were specifically accurate, only God could have revealed these things to them hundreds of years before the actual events took place. I have heard that no other “holy book” contains prophesy. (In checking this, scriptures are given which speak generically, not specifically, as does the Bible. And in the Bible, we are talking about scores of prophecies concerning just one event, not one “prophecy” concerning an event.) Perhaps this explains, even inadvertently, why. No one can predict the future without error. Period. Others writing their “holy book” could be totally rejected if they made a prophecy that was not specifically, accurately fulfilled. Even modern-day fortune-tellers and psychics are not accurate by their own admissions. Yet people consult and rely on them!!!

Let’s examine some Biblical statements in this regard:

II Peter 1:20 “Knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit…”

Some of the references concerning the birth of Christ state clearly that it was God’s plan since before the beginning, from eternity past, that there would be a Redeemer, God’s Son, virgin-born, Who would die for the sins of the world. (See Psalm 93:2; Micah 5:2; Hebrews 9: 26-28). This means that Jesus was in existence since before time began and was/is one of the Godhead (see John 8:58).

Jesus’ virgin birth and sinless life was prophesied and given by a special angelic messenger. (See Isa. 7:14; 9:6,7; Luke 1:31, 35; John 1:14, 15)

The fact that Jesus would die, (He was born to die!!!), and facts concerning it are clearly foretold. (See Isa. 53: 3,5,10-14; Psalm 22:1; Matt. 16:21; Mark 10:45; Heb. 9: 26-28, especially 28.)

How many more facts are necessary to prove that the Bible is accurate?

If you are as human as I am, there are times when a circumstance, an inability to discern the veracity of every jot and tittle of scripture, an attack by Satan, or whatever, cause you to have question or doubt. I find solace in the fact that the overwhelming majority of Scripture I believe to be accurate, so why should I allow one little (or big) issue that troubles me cause me to ignore the obvious: God’s Word is God’s Word whether I can understand all of it or not. No one has ever or will ever be able to disprove it. Not even one word or thought.

This Christmas, or whatever day of the year it is, remember, “Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift” (II Cor. 9:15). Thanks too for God’s other gift, His inerrant Word.

Verses above

Deut 18: 19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?

22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

Deut. 13 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,

2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;

3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

4 Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.

5 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

7 Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;

8 Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him:

9 But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

10 And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

11 And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.

Isa. 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Isa. 9:6 & 7 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

Isa.42:9

Psalm 93:2Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.

Micha 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Isa 52:13-15 ehold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high. 14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men: 15 So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.

Isa 53:3,5,& 10 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

Psalm 22: 1&17  My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.

Mark 10:45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Matthew 16:21From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

Luke 1: 26-37 26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.

37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

John1:14 & 15  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

John 6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

John 8:58  Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

John 17:5I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

Phil. 2:5-11 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Hebrews2:14 & 18 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Hebrews9:26-28 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Romans3:10&23 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

John 3:16

II Cor 9:15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.

Think About This: It is either all of Christ or none of Christ! I believe we need to preach again a whole Christ to the world – a Christ who does not need our apologies, a Christ who will not be divided, a Christ who will either be Lord of all or will not be Lord at all!” -A.W. Tozer
