To His Seed, I Sow

“And He said, To you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God. But to others I speak in parables, so that seeing they might not see and hearing they might not understand.”

Luke 8:10 (MKJV)

And a 1, and a 2, and a…you say you want a revolution? Well, you know, we’d all love to change the world. You tell me that it’s evolution? Well, you know, we’d all love to, ah if you got ears to hear then you know the rest of this b-side single that came with that song that encouraged you to make it better, better, Better, Better, Better, BETTER, BETTER, WWAAAAA!!! You don’t need me to add the Na Na Na Nananana, nananana, hey Jude parts, do you? That’ll mean for the next 700+ words I’ll sound like Paul McCartney and I’m not exactly too sure where he stands with the God of the universe. Anyway…

Some of you have read the above paragraph and now have both of those songs in your head (or at least one of the two). Its funny how Secularland could use these songs to spread a message ain’t it? I mean when I look at the lyrics to these two songs it is as if you almost have to be of the era to actually get what either John Lennon or Sir Paul McCartney is conveying to their audience. You’re either taking a sad song and making it better or you ain’t making it with anyone, anyhow, because you carry a picture of Chairmen Mao. I’ll tell ya, some of that stuff from the hippie era probably either fell by the roadside, landed in rocks, got choked in a thistle bush or actually took root and became a viable idea (like tye-die t-shirt’s).

Even though the songs, Hey Jude and Revolution by The Beatles, have a social message for the masses, it ain’t the Gospel and there isn’t a better song writer with a social message for the masses than Jesus Christ. So, when it comes to the crowds really accepting the Good News that Jesus was bringing, He was seeing things within them that would’a ranged from the genuine seeker to the superficial listener. Can you imagine someone in the crowd, yelling out to Jesus… “Jesus!? Those miracles You perform? Could you show us a few more like that? If you do more of them, I just might be so inclined to follow You.” Hmm, interesting, but then, in a synagogue at Capernaum…

Whoever partakes of My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He who partakes of My flesh and drinks My blood dwells in Me, and I in him. As the living Father has sent Me, and I live through the Father, so he who partakes of Me, even he shall live by Me. This is the Bread which came down from Heaven, not as your fathers ate the manna, and died; he who partakes of this Bread shall live forever.” — John 6:54-58

This wasn’t just a sad song to make better, au contraire, this is something way beyond that and this made everyone with ears hear just exactly what abiding with Jesus Christ looks like and what it will take. “Oh, never mind the miracle Jesus. We’ll be as the birds of the roadside to scoop up our portion of the seed then, shall we?” Granted, what we’re reading here is a tough saying, and to many this was just over the top, but remember… “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” (Luke 8:8c)

The Parable of the Sower is a great example of the kind of audience’s that hear (or see) our Christian witness. I know when I’ve shared what Jesus Christ did in my life, many are attracted to the war story part of it but that’s all they hear. There are some who like the family restoration part and they perk-up but their family ain’t my family, I guess. I got those who argue all the “God-stuff” and it isn’t that “binary?” (I need that one explained to me) so they shut down. But every so often someone will touch and agree with me that the same Jesus who saved me saved them.

We’ve had many eras over the span of time, each with its own social message that was meant to impact the very people that made up those eras BUT GOD does nothing to change His social messaging. We got One Book that tells that over the same span of time, His plan of one salvation, through the shed blood of His Son is what will take a sad song and make it better. You never needed a picture of Chairmen Mao to start a revolution…All You Need Is? Eh, you’ll figure it out, Amen?

Think About This: “A Christian witness is an honest confession of what the Lord has done for us that may stir others to go and do likewise—to find the same Lord and His salvation.” – A. W. Tozer
