There is a Means to an End

“The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.” Isaiah 40:8

Do the ends always justify the means? We live in an age where most people live as if there is no God, and they do not consider the final residence for their souls. From the moment we are born the path to the end is established. Our destination will provide a means to that end, but the end does not always justify the means.

I often wonder if we are too used to the idea that what we see and hear are normal? It’s as if the culture has a way of conforming us to itself. We tend to become a product of our environment. God reminds us in Isaiah 40:8 that the “Word of our God stands forever”. I believe we are justified by faith because of the work of Jesus’ sacrifice but our works are not always justified so it can be said that the end does not justify the means, but it does justify the person.

As we go about our day today maybe, if we set our minds on the things above our means or works will line up to the end. When we are living out our faith, practicing our spiritual gifts and are mindful of the things that are eternal we can say that “There is a Means to an End”.

It may be when we do not allow the outside influences to change our focus, Romans 12:2 comes into play,” And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God”. The renewing part is when we are in the truth of God’s word, the proving part is the “Means to that End”.

Of course, we don’t want to get into a works-based relationship, so the key ingredient is humility and always test our motivation. The integrity of our actions will produce a profitable “Means to an End”. Our works do not change the end, if we belong to God, we’ll get there one way or the other.

“Each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.” 1st Corinthians 3:13-15

Amen!

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings. ~Jeremiah 17:9-10
