The Work Jesus Came to Do

Posted on December 31, 2018 by America's Keswick in Freedom Fighters

We have recently celebrated the Christmas season and have rehearsed again the birth of our Savior.

Today’s blog fast-forwards the life of Christ to focus on the ministry of this Babe born in Bethlehem.

What did Jesus come to do? What was the purpose of His birth and life? Missionary Statesman, Roy Lessin gives eight things about the work that Jesus came to do:

  1. A flawless work – it is without error or mistake.
“After He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God.” (Hebrews 10:12)
  2. A final work – it will never need to be repeated.
“This He did once for all when He offered up Himself.” (Hebrews 7:27)
  3. A finished work – it needs nothing added to make it complete.
Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.” (John 19:30)
  4. A faithful work – it fulfilled our need for reconciliation with God.
“Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them. (2 Corinthians 5:18-19)
  5. A freeing work – it delivers us from the penalty and the power of sin.
“Thou shalt call His name JESUS; for He shall save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)
  6. A fruitful work – it brings us to the transforming gift of new life.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old thing have passed away; behold all things have become new.”
    (2 Corinthians 5:17)
  7. A fulfilling work – it allows us to serve the living God.
“How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” (Hebrews 9:14)
  8. A forever work – it brings the salvation that will last forever.
“He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him.” (Hebrews 7:25)

I don’t know about you, but this really blessed my heart as I reflected on the work of Christ on our behalf. Thank You, Lord.

Relentlessly pursing Christ,

This Week’s Verse to Memorize:  I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. – Galatians 2:20
