The Unstoppable Love of God

Posted on February 15, 2021 by Catey Stover in Freedom Fighters

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

One of the world’s leading theologians was asked if he could summarize what he believed in one sentence. His response was, “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so.

This is the day after Valentine’s Day, and I just want to remind you that Jesus loves you. He is your FOREVER valentine.

Max Lucado describes this way:

He loves.
He gives.
We believe we live.

A German-born Christian, Frederick Lehman started out working in a crab-apple orchard. He eventually entered the ministry and pastored in the Midwest. He loved music and wrote many gospel songs and hymns.

In 1917 his world fell apart, and he ended up back working in a factory that sold lemons and oranges. He was contemplating the unstoppable love of God and penned these words:

The love of God is greater far, than tongue or pen can ever tell,
It goes beyond the highest star and reaches to the lowest hell.
The guilty pair bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win;
His erring child, He reconciled and pardoned from his sin.

When years of time shall pass away, and earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men, who here refuse to pray, on rocks and hills and mountains call.
God’s love so sure shall still endure, and measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race the saints and angels song.

He wanted a third stanza and had recently heard in a sermon in which he heard of an inmate how penned words on the wall on an insane asylum:

Could we with ink the ocean fill and were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill, and every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry,
Nor could the scroll contain the whole though stretched from sky to sky.

O love of God, how rich and pure, how measureless and strong.
It shall forever more endure, the saints and angels song.

It could very well be on this Monday morning after Valentine’s Day, you needed to be reminded of this simple but profound truth: JESUS LOVES YOU. His love is UNSTOPPABLE.

Have a blessed day.

Think About This: “God is completely sovereign. God is infinite in wisdom. God is perfect in love. God in His love always wills what is best for us. In His wisdom He always knows what is best, and in His sovereignty He has the power to bring it about.” – Jerry Bridges.
