The Truth Heals

“‘Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.” Jeremiah 33:6

I think sometimes we mistake the word hurt for heal. It’s not uncommon for healing to bring discomfort but that can be very different from hurting. The word hurt means “pain due to injury”, it’s the opposite of heal. If the truth is hurting you, maybe you’re on the wrong side of it.

Falsehood hurts, to live a lie can cause a major injury and lead to a life of deception. Jeremiah was sitting in the court of the prison when the word of the Lord came to him with truth. Living in truth almost always requires faith, to believe that God is in control and our best option is to rise above our circumstances and believe God. Verses like “I will never leave you or forsake you” should be worn like a belt that holds up our shield of faith.

The promises of God are always “Yes and amen”, this should be applied like a salve on a wound. The application of truth to our lives can bring discomfort when we allow ourselves to be led astray, but the stinging effect of truth must be seen as a discomfort that brings healing, not hurting. The truth only hurts those who choose to stay in falsehood. But as believers in Jesus Christ, truth is the foundation in which we stand. “So, Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”.

Jeremiah had to live in the truth of the coming Messiah, we live in the truth of the promises kept and the gift of the Holy Spirit that was given when Messiah came. We are guided into truth by the Spirit of Truth, Jeremiah was made well by the promise of what is to come.

Behold, the days are coming,’ says the LORD, ‘that I will perform that good thing which I have promised to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah:

 ‘In those days and at that time

I will cause to grow up to David

A Branch of righteousness;

He shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.

 In those days Judah will be saved,

And Jerusalem will dwell safely.

And this is the name by which she will be called”,

“THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS”.

Are you hurting because of a falsehood that has crept in? Apply the salve of truth today be healed. Because “The Truth Heals”, Amen!
