The Realm of the Unknown

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. Isaiah 55:8

Well, I’ve entered the world of the “smart phone” and I must admit it is amazing. I have also made some biblical application to this whole ordeal, which, by the way is a neat way of God letting me know He’s with me. I enjoy the realm of the unknown that exist in the believer, that still small voice that connects the worldly things to heavenly meanings. How buying a cellphone, I can be reminded of my relationship with Jesus.

Bear with me as I attempt to make application. First was getting past the intimidation and fear of the “unknown”. As we go into a new year and can have many concerns of what’s ahead, it can be overwhelming. But as I ponder the character of God and read the accounts in the book of Isaiah, I know that we serve a God who, although is not visible, has my best interest in mind. If the things of this world fail in comparison to the things of God, than I must say, if I’m impressed by the technology of the smart phone and God’s way are higher than ours, then I should not be moved.

The second comparison took place a few days later when I noticed that my battery was not making it through the day. I took it back to the store and the tech, with no hesitation was able to show me all the unnecessary applications and programs that I didn’t need that was draining my source of energy.

I was sitting there listening to him as his voice became muted and the Spirit of God reminded me of some things going on in my life right now that are draining me. How, unbeknownst to me I was carrying around useless stuff that was weighing me down. The tech, with a couple of minor adjustments was able to “free up” space and conserve my phones ability to last through the day.

When I applied the teachings of the Bible to myself I found comfort in reading later on in Isaiah 55, the promise to Israel and I believe to us,

“For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace, The mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”

That to me is the “Realm of the Unknown”. Like my new smart phone, I don’t know how it works, but it works. Same goes for our God,

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

So if you’re feeling “disconnected”, look around, God wants to use your everyday circumstances as a teachable moment to bring you close to Him. Rob Russomano is a graduate of the Colony of Mercy and serves full-time at America’s Keswick. You can write to Rob at rrussomano@americaskeswick.org

Daily Bible Reading: Genesis 20-22; Romans 8:1-21

Think About This: The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective. G. K. Chesterton

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. Joshua 1:7
