The Morning Watch (Part 2)

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 NIV

It is interesting that the week after I wrote about the morning watch, we hosted a trip to the Museum of the Bible in Washington, DC.

Good morning, and welcome to a new week of Freedom Fighters. We can’t thank you enough for reading. And by the way, hearing from you is a big encouragement.

If you have not been to the Museum of the Bible, you need to put it on your bucket list and take a day to enjoy it. Actually, you could do two days and not really see everything.

It was an amazing experience and confirmed in my mind how important it is to spend time in this amazing treasure – the Word of God.

Interesting timing that I read two devotionals on the same day, one was a dated devotional, and the second “just happened” to be the next devotional in the sequence. The theme? The Word of God.

Here are some great quotes:

The purpose of the Bible is to bring men to Christ, to make them holy, and prepare them for heaven. In this, it is unique among books, and it always fulfills its purpose. – A. W. Tozer

The vigor of our spiritual lives will be in exact proportion to the place held by the Bible in our lives and in our thoughts. – George Muller

Be assiduous in reading the Holy Scriptures. This is the fountain whence all knowledge in divinity must be derived. Therefore, let not this treasure like by you neglected. Jonathan Edwards

The instrument of our sanctification is the Word of God. The Spirit of God brings to our minds the precepts and doctrines of truth and applies them with power. The truth is our sanctifier. If we do not hear or read it, we will not grow in sanctification. C. H. Spurgeon

The reasoned cast it into the furnace, which his own negligence had heated “seven times hotter” than its wont – but it came out without the smell of fire. The formalist fastened serpents around it to poison it – but it shook them off and felt no harm. The infidel cast it overboard in a tempest of sophistry and sarcasm – but it rode gallantly upon the crest of the proud waters. And it is living still, yet heard in the loudest swelling of the storm. It has been speaking all the while – it is speaking now.  William Punshon

No one can put a chain around God’s words and limit its movement, blind its purpose, chain its influence, weaken its authority, or contain its power.

No warrior can dull the edges of its blade; No intellectual can undermine its truth. No skeptic can lessen its authenticity; No mocker can weaken its foundations. No philosopher can out-think its penetrating insight; No strongman can weaken its power. No religion can replace its transforming power.

The rebellious fight it, the disobedient ignore it, the stubborn refuse it, the indifferent ignore it, the lazy neglect it, the careless skim over it, the foolish despise it, the runaway turns his back on it, and the traitor renounces it.

The hungry one eats it, the weary one rests in it, the traveler finds his way in it, the humble one learns from it, the servant yields to it, the submissive one obeys it, the worshipper loves it, the downcast one is encouraged by it, the weary one is strengthened by it, the sick one is healed by it, and the wise one builds his life upon it. – Roy Lessin

King David said it best: O how I love Your law! I meditate on it all day long. Psalm 119:97

How about you? Do you REALLY love the Word of God? Did you take time to read it today? What did God teach you today?

Relentlessly pursuing Christ,
