That You Put the Burden of All These People on Me

In my time at Keswick, I have been blessed to meet many prayer warriors. Many stop, drop, and pray without hesitation. It’s always a comfort to me afterward that people can do that so easily. I’ve learned from them the positive nature by which a simple prayer is received. But what happens when those burdens that people experience are in need of just a little more than prayer? Are we willing to take on some their burdens ourselves and make their life less burdensome? How do we go about being more than just a prayer warrior into a burden-bearer?

In Numbers chapter 11 Moses was in a dilemma himself. “He asked the Lord, why have you brought this trouble on your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me” 11:11 Moses goes on in verse 14-15 “I cannot carry all these people by myself the burden is too heavy for me? If this how you are going to treat me, put me to death right now, if I have found favor in your eyes… and do not let me face my own ruin”.

Harsh words from a man God trusted to lead the nation of Israel to the promised land. But haven’t there been times in so many of our lives that we felt like there was no other way and we pleaded to God to take us home? So many suffer in silence without sharing our burdens with one another. I’m not saying that we can solve everyone’s burdens all by ourselves, but just maybe we can or point someone in the right direction to get the help they need. God spoke to Moses in verses 16-17” Bring me seventy of Israel’s elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people. Have them come to the Tent of Meeting, that they may stand there with you. I will come down and speak to you there and I will take of the spirit that is on you and put the Spirit on them. They will help you carry the burden of the people so that you will not have to carry it alone”. Sounds like an “Ask and you shall receive moment”. It is so easy for us to ask for prayers when we are struggling, but it’s even harder to ask for help. Jesus died to take away the sins of the world. Not that we will not sin, but he wants us to take our burdens to him and others when needed.

Galatians 6:2 “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ”

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: 16 Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; 17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 For he who serves Christ in [e]these things is acceptable to God and approved by men. –Romans 14:16-18
