Sanctuary

“Until I went into the sanctuary of God;
Then I understood their end..”

Psalm 73:17

We can identify as Christians and still not have our identity in Christ (read that again)

Too many times in my walk with the Lord I’ve seen myself as a Christian but powerless to the strongholds in my life. Time and time again I would read verses that state, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” I also recall a truth that says I have the power that raised Jesus from the dead, Resurrection power.

Recently I was reading Psalm 73, it took me through a familiar path that struck a chord with me. Maybe not the same circumstance but certainly being drawn away because of godless behavior and seeing myself as losing the battle. I saw myself as a Christian but powerless to overcome the anxiety.

The first 16 verses of Psalm 73 show us when our identity is not in Christ, our feelings can lead us astray. Verse 16 sums it up, “When I thought how to understand this,
It was too painful for me
”.

The defeated feelings that come when we forget that we are children of the King can be overwhelming, they also can interfere with our effectiveness to portray the goodness of God. A defeated Christian is a poor example of the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There are times we sorrow but the Bible says, “Joy comes in the morning”.

Verse 17 begins the realization of our true identity, “Until I went into the sanctuary of God; Then I understood their end”. When we remember who we are the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches fade away.

Whom have I in heaven but You?

And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.

My flesh and my heart fail;

But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

So where is your Sanctuary? Do you have a place where the Truth of God’s love is revealed?

But it is good for me to draw near to God;

I have put my trust in the Lord GOD,

That I may declare all Your works.” Amen!
