Pay Attention!!

I tend to lose focus on many things in my life. One of them being golf; I love the game but for the most part, I don’t put in the time needed to get better. I recently went to one of my favorite places to grab a quick nine holes. I was all by myself, no rushing around with people behind, yet I felt the need to get it done quickly and get home. So many things go wrong when we try to rush through a golf shot. The ball goes in the woods, pond, or 30 yards down the fairway because I topped it…AGAIN! I stopped myself on the 7th hole, looked at it a lot longer than normal, and thought about everything that I should do. Had a little plan in my head, and started again, slowly. Then the impossible happened. I had never done this in 40 years of playing this absolutely frustrating game: I parred the last three holes. Three in a row!! It almost scared me that I accomplished this simple feat. I guess that comes with paying attention to the details.

Hebrews 2:1-5 says, “For this reason, we must pay attention all the more to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away. For if the message spoken through the angels was legally binding and every transgression and disobedience received a just punishment, how will we escape if we neglect such a great situation? This salvation had beginnings when it was spoken of by the Lord and it was confirmed to us by those who heard Him. At the same time, God also testified by signs and wonders, various miracles and distributions of the gifts from the Holy Spirit according to His will.”

Why should our lives be any different? When we choose to follow the Bible and its teachings, it leads us straight down the middle of the fairway on a par 5. It keeps us from experiencing the dangers of hitting over a lake or a sand trap, and landing the ball on the green 10 feet from the hole. How many times have we drifted away from God and wondered if we would ever see land again? Daily reading of His Word and living it keeps our focus on the on the things above instead of paying attention to the things in our daily life, work, home, and/or relationships.  Let us not forget to pay attention to the one relationship that will sustain us always. Do you hear what God is saying to you today? Pay attention!!
