Past, Present, and Future

A horse is a vain hope for safety;

Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength.

Psalm 33:17

What if all you had was what you see in plain sight? Everything that matters is determined by happenstance or luck. What if your future was determined by the latest headlines or what everybody on social media is saying?

In Psalm 33 the Psalmist is highlighting the sovereignty of God, he is bringing to light the things our hope is built on. He takes us from beginning to end with what the faith of our hope should be found in.

He was….

Vs.6,7

By the word of the LORD the heavens were made,

And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.

 He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap;

He lays up the deep in storehouses.

This truth that God is the Creator and reason for all existence should encourage us to look above the trials and troubles of this world.

He is…

Vs. 10-12

The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;

He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect.

 The counsel of the LORD stands forever,

The plans of His heart to all generations.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD,

The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.

I often read verses that speak about God’s counsel over worldly counsel and how He will overcome evil. My problem is my timing compared to God’s. If you also struggle with this refer to the “He was” accounts.

He will always be…

Vs 20-22

Our soul waits for the LORD;

He is our help and our shield.

For our heart shall rejoice in Him,

Because we have trusted in His holy name.

 Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us,

Just as we hope in You.

“Because we have trusted” is an anchor for our soul because of the great promises that are yet to come…

Can you think of any?
