It’s Memorial Day. I have a friend who shall remain nameless, who recently went on a rant about making sure we remember to honor the right military on their designated day.
Memorial Day is the day to honor men and women who have served our country by giving their very lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have in the United States.
I have been a wee bit conflicted because normally, we will tell someone to say “Happy Memorial Day.” It really isn’t a happy day for families who have lost loved ones in battles across the globe.
I wonder what our fallen heroes would be thinking today about laying down their lives for our country if they could see where we are heading now? So many of our freedoms are being stripped and taken away, and it is only just the beginning.
I subscribe to Mikey’s Funnies. Monday through Friday, they send some of the greatest jokes. But often they will send a thought-provoking story or poem like this one. I thought this was fitting for this year’s Memorial Day.
It’s not about the parties
Or picnics on the beach
It’s in memory of those who have fallen
Just now beyond our reach
The men and women of past
Who gave of life and limb
To protect the freedoms that we enjoy
Our right to believe in Him
From our forefathers of yesteryear
To Grandpa in “forty-one”
Dad in Korea and Vietnam
A brother in Desert Storm
As you lounge beside the pool
Or stroll along the shore
Take a moment to reflect upon
Those that are no more
Take a look around you
At the life you hold so dear
Just a moment to remember
And you’ll find that they’re still here

Amid all the Memorial Day festivities, take a moment to remember our fallen heroes and pray for their families who are still grieving today.
And better yet, take a moment to pray for this nation. Pray that we will turn our hearts back to God.

Think About This: “Your approval before God is woven into the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, not what other men and women think about you.” ―
