Let’s Break Bread

Posted on September 15, 2022 by Elizabeth Welte in Freedom Fighters

Since the beginning of time, there has been bread. In Genesis 3:19, God told Adam, “You will eat bread by the sweat of your brow.” When the Israelites left Egypt and complained more than once, that there was nothing to eat; the Lord spoke to Moses in Exodus 16:12 saying, “And in the morning you will eat bread until you are full.” Then manna came down from heaven as God said it would. God provides in so many ways that we can’t comprehend all the good He does for His people.

When Shirley and I head north to our little cabin on the lake, one of the blessings is being able to see some of the men that have connections with Keswick. One man in particular, Dennis, and his wife Glorianne, have a wonderful gift of getting people together to “Break Bread.” On a recent trip, I was playing golf with Dennis, and another man Matt. Dennis said, “Stop over first and have some breakfast.” Sounded good, a bagel or some muffins would be great, with a cup of coffee. Not even close. Dennis had a FEAST! Eggs any way you wanted them, blueberry pancakes, sausage, bacon, toast, juice. Then on Sunday, when we went to church with him, all the men that have ties with Keswick were there. So, Dennis quickly said let’s have a BBQ at our house. Everyone stepped up and did something and had a wonderful afternoon of fellowship.

Getting together doesn’t have to be a major ordeal, just people of like minds sharing a meal together. Your home doesn’t need to be spotless; you don’t have to pull out grandma’s fine china-set, and it doesn’t have to be a gourmet meal. Acts 2:42 says, “They devoted themselves to the apostle’s teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.”  I know it’s not possible to share a meal everyday with people, but I would love to have a heart like Dennis and Glorianne to be able to say, “Hey! What are you doing tonight.?” Acts 2:46-47 says, “Every day they devoted themselves to the meeting in the temple, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with joyful and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. Every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.”

So hopefully you will break bread with someone soon.
