Laboratory Living

Covid-19 has us living in a laboratory of democracy.

A laboratory is a workplace where scientific research, experiments, or measurements are done. And that is our world in May 2020.

Our government and medical experts can place us under house arrest or allow us to proceed with living as normal and no one can accurately predict the results. Some will say we saved hundreds of thousands of lives by shutting down society while others will say that may not be the case at all. Some will say that open exposure in crowds is a breeding ground, while others say the containment in a small enclosure is far more dangerous. And on and on goes the debate.

How will we know who is correct? By living in a laboratory of democracy and testing the results. Data! People will get sick and die under any circumstance. Which path do you choose?

Reasonable restrictions based on common sense should be followed by all regardless of where we are. On the other hand, there are certain types of places such as retirement complexes and hospitals that are far more dangerous than open spaces. That’s what the laboratory is showing. It also shows that age is a primary factor.

One size restrictions do not fit all. That is tyranny, not democracy. Isn’t it interesting that Dr. Fauci says we must wear a mask, but it is acceptable to have sex with someone you meet on-line! Or how about in Illinois where you may use your boat but no more than two people may occupy it, and that includes huge yachts carrying only family members! Or in Michigan where you can’t purchase paint or get a haircut, but you can get an abortion! Etc., etc., etc.

Americans want the unvarnished truth, not opinions of “experts” who have never faced this situation before and have already made a number of poor or even flat-out inaccurate judgements. Americans want to be treated as mature adults who make their own decisions and are willing to live with the results. Once the unwanted results appear, then the restrictions, some harsh, must follow and be strictly enforced.

A serum will eventually help to control the problem, just as a flu shot controls, but does not eliminate, the flu. We will learn to live responsible lives to reduce the risk and get the shot to control the damage when infected or as a precaution.

But wait. We also are in a spiritual laboratory. We have freedom to do our own thing. People will make foolish decisions. Based upon their severity, harsh results will follow, even up to death. Sin has consequences, yet we all live with it in our daily routines. No one is perfect. Jesus is the serum that keeps us from daily sentencing and from the ultimate punishment, eternal death.

I John 1: 9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Confession. I have the disease, sin.

I John 2: 1,2 says “…But if anybody does sin (the awful possibility), we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One (the ample provision). He is the atoning sacrifice (serum) for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”

James 1:13-15 says, “When tempted, no one should say, ‘God is tempting me.’ For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”

You will not need to die from COVID-19 in this life once there is a vaccine and you do not need to die eternally because the vaccine already exists: Jesus. Have you accepted Him? The COVID-19 vaccine is worthless left in its vial and Jesus is worthless left on the pages of the spiritual medical resource book, the Bible.

This Week’s Verse to Memorize:  “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 [c]Because narrow is the gate and [d]difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. –Matthew 7:13-14
