Kept in Christ

“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on You! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord GOD is the eternal Rock.” Isaiah 26:3-4

I love the word ‘keep’ in this statement about God’s provision of peace. The steadfast of mind is only possible because ‘God keeps’ it that way by His faithful, powerful, never-ending promises. We are in a position to be ‘kept in perfect peace’ because, and only because of the trust we have ‘in God’; a trust that He has established in us by His lovingkindness. This is love which is based on His perfect, unchanging nature. It does not rely on our responses or actions, only His perfect will. It is the “solid rock’ that Isaiah refers too in verse 4.

His ‘keeping’ is why we can have rest. God is at work and we rest in the assurance of His faithfulness… because He is absolute perfection, His work is good, so there is nothing to fear. Because He is the ‘solid rock’ we can rest on, we “don’t have to worry about anything; instead, we pray about everything, telling our God what we need, and thanking Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

There’s that phrase again, ‘Living in Christ’. It is likened to someone whose ‘thoughts are fixed on Jesus.’ If you want to pull them together, just read further in Philippians to where Paul emphatically states, ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (v.13) When we obey His Word, we are fixing our life on Him, and by our obedience we are putting off our will and living in Christ, allowing His nature to be ours, which floods our lives with His Spirit, in whose strength we now operate, enabling us to press on through any obstacle, dark valley, fiery furnace, lions cave, or battle against our enemies of doubt, fear, sin, willfulness, selfish ambition, and death. ‘For every child of God defeats these things and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God’, and rests in His Word. (1 John 5:4-5)

Today, you can be ‘kept’ in perfect peace. Start by pursuing God in prayer and thankfulness, then trust His promises by being obedient to them in how you live; and you will be girded up in His strength. Start with prayer… ‘For Prayer wins the day!

Choose wisely…

Think About This: “It is the most counterintuitive aspect of Christianity, that we are declared right with God not once we begin to get our act together but once we collapse into honest acknowledgment that we never will.” ― Dane C. Ortlund
