It’s Only Just Begun

I recently read a Quote that said “if you looking for a comfortable religion don’t try Christianity.”
The verse from Mark chapter 2 is a call to action, after all the dust settled and the excitement of the announcement of the coming of our King, reality sets in and I can become complacent. For me, with the holiday rush over, hopefully I got what I wanted and the gifts I gave were satisfactory.
I can relate it to my salvation, the excitement of receiving Jesus in my heart and the anticipation of a new beginning. But then life calls and the Baby Jesus becomes a distant memory. The wise men remind us that after the event we need to continue to seek Him. “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?”
This is where the battle begins, Mary and Joseph are far from going back to the status quo. This birth has rocked our world and those of us who embrace it should be ready for the enemy to defeat it. The best is yet to come, like when we first believed, but the Nativity scenes are going back in the attic and most will start the hopeless task of coming up with a New Year’s resolution.
My prayer is that I will follow and walk towards the King. This will not be easy because more and more it seems like an uphill climb or a going against the crowd direction that wants to take me with them. Like the wise men, my path towards the King cannot return the same way. After encountering Jesus my way back to my routine of life must take a different path.
My heart needs to be looking for the star that leads to Jesus, coming to Him with gratitude and a sense of satisfaction and joy that comes with my salvation. I speak to so many people who fall into depression after the holidays and are discontent with the anticipation that, for them is now over for another year.
Not me, I know each day brings a new beginning and the celebration of our Saviors birth is a call to battle, I’m following King Jesus. I know the journey will not be easy but it’s way better then what I walked away from. I like what Habakkuk records at the end of his book chapter 3 verses 17-19.
“Though the fig tree may not blossom,
Nor fruit be on the vines;
Though the labor of the olive may fail,
And the fields yield no food;
Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,
And there be no herd in the stalls—
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.
The LORD God is my strength;
He will make my feet like deer’s feet,
And He will make me walk on my high hills.”
Although I didn’t get what I wanted and the gifts I bought will be returned, although the lines are longer now than they were before Christmas and I’m ready to run that guy off the road, Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength.
Happy New Year, It’s been a blessing sharing with all of you this past year and I appreciate all the encouraging words. But remember, “It’s only just begun”!
