It’s Not About Your Rights (but right living) PART TWO

“Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”

Colossians 3:22-24 (NKJV)

The last time I was with you I was covering some stuff concerning our “God-given rights.” I don’t mean to be a damp towel about this but there’s a lot of embellishment over our “God-given rights.” We have freedom in Christ and the liberty to do right things BUT as far as America goes, I think some stuff gets cherry-picked in order to uphold a more perfect union, that now argues amongst itself. It’s great to live in a land that resembles a bag of mixed nuts, but we shouldn’t allow it to take down the Cross of Christ and this is where we Christians need to come in and be, well, Christian.

Throughout history, we’ve seen the countless abuses of power that human government has done, especially by those who thought they had “God-like power” over the folks they governed. For those of us with our noses in our Bibles, we can see this all too clear as we should have read about the Roman Empire, the Babylonian Empire, The Greek Empire, and the infamous Assyrian Empire, just to name a few. We know those empires had men who crowned themselves as a deity and demanded that people worship them.

Secularland is included in this as well. Even though they claim to not know or want God in the public square, modern-day rulers play God on a daily basis to such a degree that they actually think the Creation that surrounds us all can be controlled by their pseudo acts of protecting us from a climate that changes. We’re told to “follow the science” and even in that they say it changes every day. Who can blame us if we’re having a hard time obeying a Caesar that is confused and chaotic? This is where we have to understand that our actual God-given right is right living between human beings.

“If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.” (Romans 12:18)

I think we’ve forgotten that it is only by God’s grace (because of what Jesus Christ did at the Cross) that we can have any relationship with Him at all, so in that sense we don’t have these intrinsic rights before God. However, God gives us moral direction through the Bible that clarifies the rights we have between human beings and it is in this that our rights are given to us by God. Right relationship, right living, God-given right! Got that? Good.

So, if you were starting to wonder about my position on our American rights, think again. The Founding Fathers had this radical idea that all human beings have rights under God and that it is the government’s job to protect those very rights. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are just the fruits when a nation is UNIFIED in its understanding of Good Orderly Direction!! It’s when the government places itself above God and dismisses our accountability to Him that a nation goes completely potty.

So, should we be praying for our nation as a whole? You betcha. Should we be praying for the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? You betcha. Should we be praying for those folks that have just surrounded themselves with a wall made of chain link? You betcha. As a matter of fact, like’em or not, God has allowed them in be in the position they hold, so we continue to pray for them…their gonna need those prayers when their time of account comes.

During His last moments with His disciples, Jesus taught them truths in rapid-fire motion. He knew that most of the time they saw things from a horizontal position…like overthrowing the Roman Empire as an example. Maybe they were tired of working so hard to earn a living. But the one thing they could put their hope in was this amazing truth Jesus gave them as an assurance, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

So, when these political leaders go off on their tangents with their “Follow the science” or “Climate Change” jargon, stay at peace, knowing that He who is in you, is greater than he who is in the world. Besides, just like you, their gonna have to bow to Jesus. They can bow now, or they can bow later but rest assured they’re gonna bow. Amen?

Think About This: “Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only law book and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited . . . What a Eutopia, what a Paradise would this region be.” – John Adams

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: 17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 19 We love [c]Him because He first loved us. -1 John 4:17-19
