I know that!

Having XM radio in one of our cars when we make long trips is very nice. You don’t have to fumble through the dial to try to find a new station once you’re out of the previous station’s range. It’s nice to be able to listen for 4-5 hours worth of music or talk radio, without getting bored out of your mind. One of our favorite stations is the Message. It plays contemporary Christian music free of foul language or objectional material, and they give little positive words during the day. And it even lets you know who the artist is so if something really catches your ear, you can maybe download some more of their songs. One thing that so many of the songs do is quote scripture.  Trust me, I am no biblical scholar or one to give biblical advice, but picking up my bible every day and reading God’s word has made certain scripture familiar to me. So, when a song comes on and they quote a passage of scripture that I “sort of know” where it is in the bible, I smile.

This is the process of learning what the bible says to us, and how it speaks truth into our life. Reading and learning what the bible says should not be a chore, but a labor of love.

Job 34:4 “Let us discern for ourselves what is right, let us LEARN together what is good”

Psalm 119:73 “your hands made me and formed me, give me understanding to LEARN your commands”

Proverbs 4:2 “I give you sound LEARNING, so do not forsake my teaching”.

Back in the 60s the rock group “The Byrd’s” had a major hit with the song “Turn Turn Turn”. When I first heard the song I, like many others, I had no idea it was from Ecclesiastes 3. It was just a great song with timely lyrics for that generation. At that point in my life I had never picked up a bible so how could I know this song was influenced by God’s word? As we go about our daily lives listening to the message on XM radio or star 99 or the bridge. When that song comes on that is quoting scripture that’s familiar to you, you’ll probably say, “Hey, I know that”

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, -1 Peter 1:6-7
