HOLD ON!!

For those of you that know me, my wife, Shirley and I have a small cabin right on Schroon Lake in the Adirondacks. It’s a peaceful place that we are blessed to share with family. Last year when our 2 ½-year-old granddaughter was with us I took her out on 1 of the kayaks we have. She was amazed by the smooth water and seeing things from being on the water and not on land. When a boat came by us, a small wake was coming towards us. I thought nothing of it as I’ve been on the lake for years. Suddenly the kayak starts rocking back and forth on the wake of the boat. She grabs the sides of the kayak, looks back at me in fear, and yells “HOLD ON!!!!” that poor little girl thought the worst was going to occur, having never been in that situation before.

What happens to us when our situation turns from the calm sea to a full-fledged tsunami? Do we panic and look to others to save us? Or are we steadfast following the one and only thing we should be holding onto? 1 Corinthians 15:2 “By the Gospel you are saved, if you hold on firmly to the word, I have preached to you…” Jesus Christ should be our anchor in the calm seas and the anchor when we are in troubled waters. In the good times, we should praise Him and thank Him and when the storms come we should hold on that He will pull us out of the storm. Matthew 14 tells of Jesus walking on water towards the disciple’s boat in the middle of the sea. “Lord, if it’s you, Peter replied, tell me to come to you on the water. Come, Jesus said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came towards Jesus. But when Peter saw the wind, he was afraid and began to sink, and cried out “Lord save me” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “you have little faith” Jesus said “Why did you doubt”

Don’t let your doubts or fears cause you to drown in the sea of sin and despair. Hold on to the one and only things that can take us threw any storm that comes our way! Who will you “HOLD” on to!!
