Emmanuel

Emmanuel … God with us!

This is one of my favorite names of The Christ. It is the name that reflects the truth that no matter what we face, we are not alone… our Savior and Lord is with us, fighting the battle we are in, guiding us through the circumstances we face, holding us tight when we are afraid, and carrying us when we are not strong.

This name depicts Jesus closing the mouths of the lions when Daniel was among them; It describes God’s care of the likes of Joseph and Paul through their imprisonments and ministries; it is the appearing of Jesus in the fiery furnace with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; and it is the truth of the Christ standing by the side of that hospital bed and His guiding the hand of the surgeon as he operates on your child…

‘Emmanuel… God with us’ is not about a disinterested being who see’s mankind as a tool or plaything… He is our God who loves us… sending His only begotten Son as a child, to grow up among us, knowing our struggles, our hopes, sorrows, and dreams. This child would not just be with us for a moment, God told Joseph concerning this child, “She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).”

Matthew 1:21-23

God has a plan and He is at work accomplishing that plan… even as your heart may be breaking and you are Struggling to believe, God has provided for your greatest need of salvation from sin and death. And if “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all — how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32) In this season we celebrate the birth of Jesus as the Savior of the World, but this is only a small aspect of His being ‘Emmanuel’; for in giving of His Spirit in earnest of All that that He wants us to enjoy, He fulfills His promises to ‘never leave us nor forsake us.’ You are never alone, so reach out and grasp hold of Him who is ‘God with us’… no matter what your struggling with… whether facing surgery, missing a loved one, feeling overwhelmed, or struggling with a heart ache… you must know He is ‘Emmanuel’ the One who is  with you, providing your every need, every step of the way.

Choose wisely…

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:35-39)

Praying you see Christ at work in you today.

Think About This: “Trying to do the Lord’s work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work. But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you.” – Corrie Ten Boom
