Destination Holiness – Set Apart for More

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control [d]perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither [e]barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:5-11

I trust you had a great Christmas. Tomorrow is New Years Eve, and I cannot believe we be starting the second decade of the 2000s!!!

As I shared with you several weeks ago, our new theme for 2000 is Destination Holiness – Set Apart for More, and our theme verse is 2 Peter 1:5-7.

At the beginning of a new year, I try to map out what I am going to read in addition to the Keswick Bible Reading Plan. With our theme being holiness, there are so many good devotional readings on holiness, and my goal this year in my 52 blogs will be to share with you some of the classic devotionals on the topic of holiness.

The other exercise we have been doing for the past several years is to ask God to give us a word that we can work on in our lives for the year. My word for 2019 was “No!” That was hard – but I did make a concerted effort to learn to say more no’s than yes’s to stuff in my life from scheduling to areas of my life that needed to be addressed.

This year’s theme verse gives you some really good choices of “Word for the year”:

Virtue
Faith
Self-control
Perseverance
Godliness
Brotherly Kindness
Love

I put my word on a 4X6 card along with the memory verse and ask the Lord to teach me more about that particular word. You will be amazed at how many times and in how many places your word will appear in the new year.

These seven qualities which Peter says to add to our faith are all designed to move us towards HOLINESS. God’s plan for us to be holy – not necessarily a popular word these days. You and I were set apart for more than just an insurance policy for heaven.

Thank you for joining me in the new year as we explore and unpack our theme. I am grateful for you. I am grateful for our Freedom Fighter bloggers.

Happy New Year.
