Contentment in Jesus

I am using Paul David Tripp’s daily devotional again this year, called New Morning Mercies. Almost every day I am getting slammed!!! J

This week I read these two quotes: “Every day you preach to yourself some kind of gospel – a false “I can’t do this” gospel or the trie, “I have all I need in Christ” gospel.”

The second quote: “We either preach to ourselves a gospel of aloneness, poverty, and inability or the true gospel of God’s presence, power, and constant provision. You are preaching to yourself a gospel that produces fear and timidity or one that propels you with courage and hope. You are preaching to yourself of a God who is distant, passive, and uncaring or of a God who is near, caring, and active. You are always preaching to yourself a gospel that causes you to rest in His wisdom or a gospel that produces a bit of panic because it seems as if there are no answers to be found.”

Then I read this devotional on contentment in Jesus that socked me between the eyes. It is from Meet My In the Meadow by Roy Lessin:

His water quenches my thirst; I don’t need to dig other cisterns.

His bread fills my hunger; I don’t need to gather up crumbs.

His banqueting table is extravagant; I don’t need to eat at outside diners (I thought that was a funny one, especially in light of our pandemic).

His presence is fullness of joy; I don’t need to seek ways to find fulfillment.

His peace passes understanding; I don’t need an articificial fix.

His will is perfect; I don’t need to acquire a better plan.

His wisdom is flawless; I don’t need to listen to the world’s point of view.

His grace is sufficient; I don’t need to obtain superficial help.

His redemption is complete; I don’t need to hunt for another Savior.

His covenant is certain; I don’t need to read a different guarantee.

His provision meets my needs; I don’t need to be on a quest for more.

His kingdom is unshakable; I don’t need to find a more secure place to stand.

His smile is enough; I don’t need to seek the applause of others.

His life is glorious; I don’t need to look for another reason to live.

His return is sure; I don’t need to let my heart be troubled.

I needed to hear these truths at this time in my life. I hope they speak to your heart as well.
