HOW GREAT THOU ART

LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory in the heavens. 2 Through the praise of children and infants, you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. 3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon, and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?[c] 5 You have made them[d] a little lower than the angels[e] and crowned them[f] with glory and honor. 6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their[g] feet: 7 all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, 8 the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.

9 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Psalm 8

By the time you read this, we will have completed an America’s Keswick tour to beautiful Alaska.

We have been here before, but somehow this time things just seem to be even more spectacular than they were 14 years ago.

I snapped hundreds of pictures which somewhat captured the beauty, but it really doesn’t even do justice. There were so many times that we found ourselves saying, “WOW!”

In Denali National Park, the beauty is just indescribable. We were blessed to see a Momma moose and her babies, dozens of caribou, several bears, hares, magpies, and more.

Every turn on the road was another amazing vista of beauty.

This is the time of the year when there is literally no night sky. But the darkness is coming and friends we were blessed to visit said the nighttime Alaskan skies are beyond description especially when the Northern Light spectaculars begin.

When David penned the words of this Psalm, he was writing from his little slice of planet earth. He didn’t even know that Alaska existed.

I had the same overwhelming feels of God’s grandeur when visiting Israel earlier this year. We have such a big, majestic God.

Maybe this was what prompted Stuart Hine to pen the words to this well-known hymn:

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,

Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;

I see the stars; I hear the rolling thunder,

Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,

And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.

When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur

And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;

Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;

That on a Cross, my burdens gladly bearing,

He bled and died to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come, with a shout of acclamation,

And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.

Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,

And then proclaim: “My God, how great Thou art!”

Then sings my soul, my Savior, God to Thee

How great Thou art, How great Thou art!!!

You don’t need to see an Alaska sky to worship Him. Take some time to enjoy a lake (the Keswick lakes would be good), take a walk in the woods. Step outside tonight and look at the stars. That majestic-amazing-big God – created all of this. BUT He created YOU!!! Thank You, Lord.

Relentlessly pursuing Christ,
