Are You Ready?

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.” (John 16:12)

I wonder what the expressions on the disciples’ confused faces looked like when Jesus spoke of His departure?  Intently waiting for their instructions from the One who has convinced them He is who He said He is.  Hearing the words from His mouth that He is leaving and another is coming, One who will convict the world of sin and testify of Jesus.  A true test of our faith is trusting when we don’t understand the process.

The process of maturing in Christ is so important to nurture and embrace that I believe if we’re not careful we can miss the benefits of being a child of God, benefits that prepare us for the ministry that lies ahead.  We sometimes want to jump in before it’s time.   Are you ready to wait on the Holy Spirit and respond to His leading?  The only thing I can see that would hinder our walk with the Lord is not being able to bear the things He is showing us, not being ready in season and out.  Being ready is a key element to seeing God at work in the things that confuse us.  It can cause stress and anxieties that are evidence of a lack of faith.

To be ready is to be patient and understanding that fruit takes time to grow.  The fruit of the Spirit is a by-product of waiting until God has done the work in us before we can truly live for Him.  Live in the Spirit of Christ: If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:25).  The bottom line of the question “Are you ready?” needs to be answered.  Is our time with the Lord causing us to better trust Him or is it just a daily commitment to read?  I think today would be a good day to ask yourself, “Am I ready?”  If not, fall on the grace of God to carry you through.

Think About This: “Sometimes when we are called to obey, the fear does not subside and we are expected to move against the fear. One must choose to do it afraid.”

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: 14 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; 15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. -2 Corinthians 5:14-15
