Anchored – Faithful Through the Ages (Part 1 )

“Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful.” — Hebrews 10:23

Good morning on this beautiful Monday morning. I am very thankful that you are joining us for another week of Freedom Fighter blogs. We appreciate your support and encouragement.

As we move through this new year, I want to share with you what God has been teaching me as we dive into this new theme.

As I have been reading through the Bible and the various devotionals I use, I went back to an older devotional called HOW GREAT THOU ART – 365 Reasons Why God is Awesome. It is still available on Smile.amazon.com.

I came across two very powerful quotes in my reading that so impacted my life when I think of the greatness of our God. They were written by St. Augustine:

Who is our God? Most high, most excellent, most powerful, most merciful, and most just; most hidden, yet most present; most beautiful, and most strong; stable, yet mysterious; unchangeable, yet changing all things; never new, never old; making all things new and bringing age upon the proud, though they do not know it; always working, yet always at rest; still gathering, yet lacking nothing; sustaining, filling and protecting; creating nourishing, and maturity; seeking, yet possessing all things.

God loves without passion; He is jealous without anxiety; He repents, yet he has no sorrow; in angry, yet serene; changes His way, yet his plans are unchanged; recovers what He finds, have never lost it; never in need, yet rejoicing in gain; never covetous, yet requiring interest. He receives over and above, that He may owe – yet who has anything that is not His? He pays debts , owing nothing; remits debts, losing nothing!!!  St. Augustine

Hymnwriter Walter Chalmers Smith penned these words about God’s greatness:

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes.
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above
Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

To all, life Thou givest, to both great and small;
In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish but naught changeth Thee.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
All praise we would render; O help us to see
‘Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee!

This was mind-blowing to me as I “pondered anew” who is this great God who is faithful. This is the One that we are to be anchored in. There is NO ONE like our great God and Father!

Take some time today to ponder and reflect on who God is. I trust you will be blown away as you think about HIS greatness and power – and yet marvel at His great love for you!

Think About This: “Life has a way of testing our anchors and tempting us to drift. Nevertheless, if our anchors are correctly placed in the rock of our Redeemer, they will hold – no matter the force of the wind, the strength of the tide, or the height of the waves.” – Dieter F. Uchtdorf
