Accountability (Part 2)

Posted on February 25, 2019 by America's Keswick in Freedom Fighters

Thank you for being a part of the Freedom Fighter family. We appreciate you.

I want to pick up where we left off last week in our discussion about accountability.

As in the story referenced last week in the narrative of David and Bathsheba, we need to ask the Lord to give us a prophet like Nathan who will be willing to get into our lives and ask the tough questions.

There are too many men who are falling off the wagon and making bad choices. I want to finish well and to do that, I have to be willing to let someone in my life who is not afraid to ask me tough questions: not just the easy ones, but the tough ones.

Pastor Brad Hambrick is Pastor of Counseling at The Summit Church in Durham, North Carolina. He wrote a very powerful blog on accountability and wants to give you his points, make some comments and then I challenge you to check out the link and read this email. THERE ARE MANY MEN WHO WISHED EARLY ON THAT THEY HAD RECEIVED THIS EMAIL.

We may not get to all of them today, so maybe this will be continued next week.

Five Accountability Questions You Wish Your Mentor Would Ask

  1. What are you doing to enjoy life? I think most of you assume that with accountability, our AP would be focusing totally on the negative or bad stuff first.

What are the things that you enjoy doing in your life? What gives you fulfillment and a sense of purpose? For some of you, it is your career, your ministry. But maybe it is your hobby.

Pastor Brad writes “We sin because sin is fun. We enjoy sin (at least for a little while). The more we deprive ourselves of legitimate pleasures, the more we will be susceptible to the temptation of illegitimate pleasures.

What are your hobbies? What do you enjoy doing when you park the car at home and settle in for the rest of the evening or on a Saturday?

  1. What new stressors are entering your life? What in your life is stressing you out?

For some of you, I can’t even begin to think of the stress you are facing in your life. Stress is real. Stress is stressful.

We understand from the men in the Colony and the students of Barbara’s Place this truth that Pastor Brad shared: “Sin is frequently an ESCAPE more than it is a pursuit.” If we are not careful we can easily justify our sin using the excuse: “But you don’t know my situation. I am so stressed out.”

Let your Accountability Partner dig a little deeper.

Well, I think I will end there and share a couple more next week. Please hear my heart – don’t run FROM accountability. Run to it! Embrace it! Will it be painful? Absolutely. Is it worth it? It sure is. God bless you.
